Mastering the Art of Face Contouring: A Step-by-Step Guide

Updated: Jun 15

Hello, beauty enthusiasts!

Contouring has become a staple in the makeup routines of many, thanks to its ability to enhance and define facial features. Whether you're a makeup novice or a seasoned pro, this guide will help you master the art of face contouring. Let's dive in!

First, what is contouring?

Contouring is a makeup technique that uses shading and highlighting to define and enhance the natural structure of your face. By applying darker shades to areas you want to recede and lighter shades to areas you want to bring forward, you can create the illusion of more sculpted features.

What You'll Need:

Before we get started, make sure you have the following tools and products:

- Blending brush or sponge: For seamless blending.

- Contour powder: Choose a shade 1-2 shades darker than your natural skin tone.

- Highlight powder: Choose a shade 1-2 shades lighter than your natural skin tone.

*Tip: Our palette, Besharam, is perfect for this! It includes a bronzer, highlighter, and blush, all in one product!

Optional:

- Setting powder: To lock everything in place.

Step-by-Step Contouring Guide

Step 1: Prep Your Skin

Start with a clean, moisturized face. Apply any moisturizer, foundation, or concealer as necessary to create an even base.

Step 2: Apply the Contour

Using your darker contour product, map out the areas you want to define. Common areas to contour include the following to create depth and dimension:

- Hollows of the cheeks: Suck in your cheeks to find the natural hollows.

- Jawline

- Sides of the nose

- Forehead

Step 3: Apply the Highlight

Next, apply your highlight product to the areas you want to bring forward. These typically include the following to add dimension and a pop of brightness.

- Center of the forehead

- Bridge of the nose

- Under the eyes

- Top of the cheekbones

- Cupid's bow and chin

Step 4: Blend, Blend, Blend!

Using a blending brush or sponge, blend the contour and highlight products into your skin. The key to a natural look is seamless blending, so take your time to ensure there are no harsh lines.

Step 5 (Optional): Set Your Makeup

To ensure your contour stays in place all day, you can set your makeup with a translucent setting powder. Lightly dust it over your face, focusing on the areas where you applied the contour and highlight.

Final Thoughts

Contouring can be tricky at first, but with practice, you'll get the hang of it. It is a fantastic way to enhance your natural beauty and add dimension to your face. With the right products and techniques, you can achieve a flawless, sculpted look. So grab your makeup bag and start practicing!

Happy contouring!
